The exhibition includes sculptural architectural installations of Tran Chau and Dinh Chung together with Anh Thao’s large-scale oil paintings. Born in the second half of the 1980s, these three artists have witnessed the materialistic transformation of the urban landscape in Vietnam. Tran Chau, Dinh Chung and Anh Thao give insight into how this transformation has affected contemporary life using material and subject as metaphor in their work.

Vo Tran Chau, Le Dinh Chung and Nguyen Anh Thao are graduates of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Art University. Though respectful of the landscape and portrait themes that dominated their training, these artists consider their artistic practice to be a space where broader facets of contemporary life should be interrogated.

‘Born from the Land’ was the winning application to San Art’s ‘Open Call’ (announced August 2011), seeking group exhibition proposals from artists across Vietnam.
