Musician and performer Jakob Schauer joined forces with HCMC-based performer Phạm Thế Vũ for a can’t-miss concert at Sàn Art this past December. The performance was followed by an informal discussion with Jakob and Vũ on artistic inspirations, musical approaches, and more.

About the performers:

Jakob Schauer is a musician and performer from Vienna. He has an extensive CV of solo and collaborative performances that include fixed media, audio-visual, sound for silent film and pure electronics, both improvised and rhythm focused. He has performed at a wide range of festivals that include Klangmanifeste, Playground AV Festival or Oktolog and played DJ gigs at VOLLKONTAKT in Vienna. Multi-instrumentalist, more like a guitarist, more like a minimalist, more like something else,… Phạm Thế Vũ exudes the sound of guitar, synthesizer, effect pedals, and recording manipulation. Beginning as a self-taught classical guitarist, from 2013, he plays the role of a main member/ guitarist of Ran Cap Duoi collective and has worked on several interrelated projects, as well as productions and residencies. Vũ is particularly noted for his sound of atmospheric audio manipulation, engineered during performances and recordings. His first album Thinh contains lengthy recordings contemplating on Vietnam’s landscapes. He recently released Ồ, characterized by abstract droning with sudden enlightenment. Vũ projects himself more like a minimalist improviser while grasping for the best ‘moments of sounds’. Listen to Vu’s solo discography.
