Due to the increase in government scrutiny of San Art's programs – 3 exhibitions not able to receive license and an artist talk given warning by the Cultural Police not to be hosted due to foreign attendance - the residency program ‘San Art Laboratory’ cannot continue under these difficult conditions at this time.
Despite the rainy season, our artist friend Bùi Công Khánh, with enthusiastic help from younger artists Nguyễn Văn Đủ and Nam Đy, has completed the new mural painting in Sàn Art's backyard. Come to visit us and enjoy the greenish garden with beautiful outdoor artworks!
Encounter speaker Marco Kusumawijaya has generously shared part of his honorarium to reward community artistic projects by several artists, activist and architects in Saigon. Each group received a small fund to initiate their new or existing community project to improve the people’s life through artistic/ cultural activities. These projects were chosen by Marco, from his Encounter workshop at San Art in June 2015. San Art Director, Zoe Butt to participate in the landmark conference ‘Africa/Asia: A New Axis of Knowledge’ in Accra, Ghana (24-26 September, 2015). Zoe will present the San Art program ‘Conscious Realities’, arguing the validity of cultural exchange in historical consciousness between these two incredible continents; in addition to participating in 2 roundtables discussing the relevance of Asian Studies in Africa and of Africa in Asia.
